Fourth Annual USC Vision Symposium
The Fourth Annual USC Vision Symposium took place on 4/18/2006, at the University Park Campus. The keynote speaker of the symposium was Dr. David Heeger from New York University, who described his fMRI work. The six local speakers were Drs. Jeannie Chen, Norberto Grzywacz, David Hinton, Judith Hirsch, Laurent Itti, and Bosco Tjan. These speakers presented work that spanned the molecular basis of phototransduction to visual perception. As always, we had a poster session, so that all scientists performing vision research at USC could present their results.
Fifth Annual USC Vision Symposium
The Fifth Annual USC Vision Symposium took place on 4/17/2007, at the University Park Campus. The keynote speaker of the symposium was Dr. Ed Callaway from Salk Institute and UCSD. He discussed his experiments relating the organization and function of cortical circuitry to visual perception. The six local speakers were Drs. Cheryl Craft, A.P. Sampath, David Huang, Xin Wang, Barlett Mel, and Zhong-Lin Lu. These speakers presented work that spanned phototransduction to visual perception. As always, we had a poster session, so that all scientists performing vision research at USC could present their results.
CVST Team Awarded Bioengineering Research Partnership Grant
A team of seven CVST faculty members was awarded this $6-million grant from NIH to develop displays for people with low vision. This grant also funds collaboration with low-vision labs from Harvard University and the University of Houston. This collaboration is interdisciplinary, comprising engineers, psychologists, and physicians.
Sixth Annual USC Vision Symposium
The Sixth Annual USC Vision Symposium took place on 4/15/2008, at the University Park Campus. The keynote speakers of the symposium were Dr. Susana Chung from the University of Houston, and Dr. Eli Peli from Harvard University Medical School and the Schepens Eye Research Institute. They described their work on perception with low vision and on technological aids to this form of visual impairment. The six local speakers were Drs. Eun-Jin Lee, Rohit Varma, James Weiland Vishal Vaingankar, Gerard Medioni, and Jessica Wisnowski. These speakers presented work that spanned retinal development to visual perception. As always, we had a poster session, so that all scientists performing vision research at USC could present their results.
CVST Team Awarded Supplementary Equipment Grant
The Bioengineering Research Parternship lead by The Center for Vision Science and Technology received a supplementary grant from NIH to purchase new equipment. This new grant will allow the purchase of a high-performance computer system to develop motion algorithms for low-vision displays. The grant will also allow the purchase of a saccade-contingent eye tracker for testing the new algorithms when subjects move their eyes.
